Built around purpose.
O'Brien Immigration is a law firm built around purpose. Our attorneys come to this work through a genuine calling, grounded in years of experience and a deep belief in what immigration represents: family unity, personal security, and community. We are not driven by volume or profit, but by responsibility to the people whose lives and futures depend on this process. Immigration is rarely simple or fast. Progress often unfolds over time, shaped by changing laws and circumstances that require patience and perseverance. There are moments when the goal is clearly in view, yet still at a distance, calling for steady preparation rather than urgency. We are honest about these realities and clear about what the law allows at each stage, helping you move forward when possible and remain grounded when waiting is part of the process. At O'Brien Immigration, we see each case as part of a larger life story. We listen closely, guide thoughtfully, and remain present for the long journey. Patience, dedication, and experience are not just values we believe in — they are the way we show up for you and your loved ones, until progress becomes possibility and possibility becomes arrival.
How we help
Every case is part of a larger life story. Here's where we come in.
Asylum & Humanitarian Relief
Representing asylum seekers before the San Francisco Immigration Court and USCIS, plus Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), U visas, T visas, and VAWA.
Removal Defense
Full representation in immigration court — bond hearings, cancellation of removal, withholding, CAT claims, and appeals.
Family-Based Petitions
Keeping families together through I-130 petitions for spouses, parents, children, and siblings; K-1 fiancé visas; and consular processing.
Green Cards (Adjustment of Status)
Adjustment of status (I-485), consular processing, and waivers for inadmissibility.
Citizenship & Naturalization
N-400 naturalization applications and derivative citizenship (N-600) for eligible permanent residents and children of U.S. citizens.
Federal Court & Habeas Petitions
Federal court challenges to unlawful detention, removal orders, and agency inaction — including habeas corpus and mandamus actions.
A careful process, start to finish.
Immigration cases move in stages. We make each one clear.
Consultation
A focused conversation to understand your situation, the law, and your realistic options. You leave with a clear picture of what the path looks like — and an honest answer about whether we're the right fit.
Strategy
Once you retain us, we build a case-specific strategy: what to file, when, in what order, and what to gather. Nothing is boilerplate — every filing is tailored to the facts of your life.
Representation
We prepare filings, appear at interviews and hearings, and communicate with USCIS or the court on your behalf. You stay informed without needing to become an expert yourself.
Patience. Dedication. Experience.
We pick our cases carefully
We take cases where we can do meaningful work — not cases we can process.
Trial-ready from day one
Our attorneys appear regularly in immigration court, USCIS, and federal court. Not just paperwork — real representation.
Multilingual, trauma-informed
Our team speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Nepali, and more. We've trained in trauma-informed representation because many of our clients need it.
Honest about outcomes
We won't sell you on a case we don't believe in. If the law isn't on your side, we'll say so — and help you think about what else might be.
Common questions
How much does a consultation cost?
Our consultations are $250 and last up to one hour. If you hire us, that fee is credited toward your retainer.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Many fees can be paid in monthly installments. We discuss this openly during your consultation.
How long will my case take?
Timelines vary by case type. USCIS publishes current processing times at uscis.gov/processingtimes. We'll give you a realistic estimate at your consultation.
Do you represent clients outside California?
Yes. Immigration law is federal, so we can represent clients anywhere in the U.S. For removal defense we appear in immigration courts nationwide.
